Curtis Jeré is a compound nom-de-plume of artists Jerry Fels and Curtis Freiler. Fels made a name for himself in the 1940s with his successful Renoir and Matisse lines of copper jewelry. Jerry Fels and Curtis Freiler founded Artisan House in 1964. The goal was to produce gallery-quality art for the masses. Curtis Freiler was production chief, while Jerry Fels was the head of design. They acquired numerous artists and craftsmen for Artisan House to duplicate their designs. Every piece produced bore the C. Jeré signature, which became the trademark of Artisan House.

The Gumps label, still attached to a 1968 C. Jeré sculpture, is indicative of the way Jeré was promoted as a single artist in the 60s and 70s.

Curtis Jeré works are handcrafted of rich metals, including copper, bronze, brass, steel, aluminum and chrome. The designs include sculpture, lighting, furniture and household accessories. C. Jeré works range from representational to highly abstract.

Jerry Fels and Curtis Freiler sold Artisan House in 1972. Artisan House has since been sold and resold over the years. However, the vision of gallery-quality art for the masses has been maintained and further expanded.

In 2007, Jonathan Adler commissioned Artisan House to reproduce some of their iconic vintage sculptures.

CIRCA WHO has SOLD many C Jeré pieces over the years. The prices have soared into the thousands due to the demand for the more desirable pieces such as the “Raindrops” and “Sunburst”. However, there are many C Jeré sculptures out there for less and they are just as FAB.
